JEFF RIVERA
Interviewed by: Lauretta Pierce
Jeff: Well, I've been writing since I was 6 years old. It's just something that came natural to me. I didn't know it was called writing actually. I just started doing it and I found that I had a passion for it. I've kept it up and I cannot imagine life without writing.
Jeff: I was inspired originally by a friend who went through a very similar circumstance but I think what inspired me in many ways was that it was a story that I had to tell. It haunted me and it stayed with me until I finally told it.
Jeff: The title came from the character Dio, who always talked about Jennifer being his lady, Por Siempre Mi Amor, which me Forever My Love.
Jeff: It's a novel that shares what it's like to truly love somebody, for that person to be your everything and what happens when life goes on for one of them but the other is still stuck in the past. Are they truly meant to be together? or was it just a passing phase?
Jeff: Like all of my characters they start out with people I know as framework. Dio came from a friend of mine and from myself and from my brother. Jennifer came from a very good friend of mine who went through some similar challenges.
Jeff: Simon's based on a friend mine who was biracial and didn't know where he belonged and Grossaint is based on someone who used to pick on me when I was in middle school.
Jeff: Since I was in the first grade.
Jeff: Forever My Lady was my first novel, and the first novel I got published. However, I'm actually in the process of having quite a few books being edited so I anticipate in the next 2-3 years having a good 6 or so books out. One of them is Forever My Lady Part 2.
Jeff: Yes, I am working on some YA novels right now that I'm very excited about. I have a whole trunk load of ideas to write about once those are done.
Jeff: I want people to really walk away feeling like they've stepped inside the characters' shoes. I want them feel what they're feeling and to go on an emotional journey.
